STANDARD EVENTS
A Standard Event is a Presentation Event, a Telescope Viewing Event, or a Solar Viewing Event by Arizona Star Tales, LLC (AST).
PRESENTATION EVENTS
An example of a Presentation Event is a lecture by one AST member in a classroom, assembly room, or other group assembly area with computer generated video enhancements. These events usually run about one hour depending on the size of the audience and interactions afterwards, and include hands-on activities enhancing the subject matter. Other AST personnel may support the event as AST deems necessary. Attendee personal needs such as chairs and lighting, and attendee organization and control are the responsibility of the event requestor. All presentation support equipment is provided by AST unless existing audio/video equipment proves more desirable. Even though these events are more formal in nature and focus on astronomy education, they are presented in a fun manner for all ages.
Some topics of Presentation Events are:
- SATURN: The Ringed Planet
- MARS: Let's Go There!
- EXOPLANETS: We have Discovered Thousands and it Keeps Going!
- URANUS AND NEPTUNE: The Giant Gas Planets
- STAR CLUSTERS: The Sky's Jewels
- NEBULAS: Where Stars are Born
- CONSTELLATIONS: Maps of the Night Sky
- ALL ABOUT TELESCOPES: From Humble to Hubble
- JUPITER: The King of the Planets
- LIGHT: How We See the Universe and What it Tells Us.
- SPACE TELESCOPES: What a Nice View from Up Here!
- PLUTO: From Planet to Dwarf Planet and Why
- ROCKETING INTO SPACE: Rocket History, Design, and Future Means of Space Travel
- INTRODUCTION TO THE COSMOS: What's All Up There?
- VENUS: Sister Planet or Evil Twin?
- TWINKLE, TWINKLE: What are Stars?
TELESCOPE VIEWING EVENTS
An example of a Telescope Viewing Event is the opportunity for all present to look through a computer controlled, high power, specialized AST telescope at various celestial objects and discuss the facts of the object being viewed. These may include the Sun, Moon, planets, nebulae, star clusters, and other objects that are in the sky at the time of the event. Emphasis is on learning about the object in addition to the initial “Oh, Wow!!!” response of actually seeing the object through a specialized telescope. Sensitive astronomical video cameras can also be attached to the telescopes for object viewing on a TV monitor or projector, especially useful for large groups or those who may have difficulty looking through an eyepiece. The viewing experience is enhanced as educational slide shows and short videos are shown on video devices next to the main telescope. Another very simple but high power telescope is also provided for event attendees to operate on their own by aiming the telescope at objects as they so desire, providing the added and unique experience of a personal exploration of the universe as they find and view objects on their own. A fun way to understand basic telescope operation. The location of objects and constellations are also being pointed out during the event with an astronomical laser and lively discussions usually follow among the group. These events are especially popular for parties, neighborhood gatherings, resort guest activities, and company events since emphasis is on providing a very unique experience and fun astronomy activity for all attendees.
SOLAR VIEWING EVENTS
These events concentrate on viewing and discovering the actions, energies, and effects of our nearest star that we call the Sun. Obviously, they are held during the times that the Sun is visible. The main instrument we use is our very specialized solar viewing Hydrogen Alpha telescope. This telescope is only used to view the Sun because it is designed to block out all the electromagnetic frequencies except the very narrow visible Hydrogen Alpha spectrum line. This region of the electromagnetic spectrum shows the effects on the Sun's surface of the nuclear fusion process happening deep within the Sun. The granulation of the Sun's surface and huge flares of plasma energy shooting out into the blackness of the universe can be seen. This is a very unique observational experience. We also incorporate a 'Sunspotter' projection telescope that projects the Sun on to a piece of paper where Sun Spots can be seen. This is an especially fun activity for our young guests as they hunt for Sun Spots and trace them out on the provided paper. The Sun's surface is constantly changing but does so over a few hour's time. So, this event is best suited for parties and outdoor events over a period of a few hours where guests can observe the ever changing dynamics of the Sun. Or, as a part of a larger public event such as a grand opening or a general educational event where guests come and go at their own pace. This event includes explanations and discussions about the Sun augmented by educational slide shows and videos next to the telescopes.
CUSTOM EVENTS
Although AST Standard Events are quite flexible and fit the majority of desires, events can be customized and designed to your vision, schedule, and plans. We enjoy making astronomy fun and bringing it to you. So, designing Custom Events with you is as fun to us as the event will be for you and your attendees. Specific displays, aligning subjects with event themes, hand-outs, personal solar viewing glasses, planispheres, signed certificates of attendance, events at your rugged desert locations, are just some examples of custom features that can be added to the experience. Final and complete pricing will be agreed upon prior to the Custom Event so there will be no surprises after your fun, educational and unique event becomes a fond and rewarding memory.
